Topics in this post: Register for our 2021 Virtual Conference / Lockdown Lemonade #44 / FAR-West Campfire TOMORROW August 24th: CRaZy Hats! / Community ‘She’s Speaking’ August 30th + Archives / FAR-West Teaches Sept 2nd + Archives / Where to Post your Events /

The 18th annual FAR-West conference will take place October 14-16th and will be entirely virtual, allowing for an even greater reach for our FAR-West community. FAR-West encompasses CA, HI, OR, WA, UT, ID, NV, WY, MT, AK, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, BC, and the Yukon territories. It’s a lot of ground and people to cover and we don’t want anyone to miss out!

This year’s theme, #forwardwithfolk, embraces our movement forward in adapting to a changing world while still showcasing past conference traditions such as the Venue’s Choice Concert, FAR-West Teaches (Panels), Guerrilla Showcases, and awards for the Best of The West, while introducing Campfires, Community Spotlights, Peer Sessions, and a Special Humanitarian Honoree.

Lockdown Lemonade #44-
In Search of Home
by Jennifer Leonhardt

Excerpt: “I spent the last year and a half ironically traveling a great deal. After the quarantine was mostly lifted, I found that I was compelled out the door, on a journey of a little bit of searching for something, and a little bit of just getting away. What I found was surprising to me.”

FAR-West Teaches
“Soloing for Songwriters – Anyone Can Take the Lead!”
Thursday, September 2nd / 2pm Pacific
Between them, Tariqh Akoni & Steve Postell have played guitar in almost every imaginable circumstance; from film & TV scores, to Broadway shows, to performing live and in the studio with artists including Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, David Crosby, Kenny Loggins, Elton John, John Oates, Jennifer Warnes and The Immediate Family, just to name a few. And whether in a stadium, the studio, or the corner bar, they have often been asked to provide exciting guitar solos. In this workshop, they will reveal some of the basic and easily accessible tools that players at any level can use to pull off a sweet sounding lead, even if you have only just accompanied your songs playing rhythm guitar parts. Remember … ANYONE CAN TAKE THE LEAD!
