Lockdown Lemonade is FAR-West’s response to the dramatic and drastic shifts of 2020’s global health and economic crises. For many, this cultural reckoning and political upheaval spurred a period of personal reflection and the discovery of coping mechanisms some of us didn’t even know we had. Lockdown Lemonade is a look at the bright side. With this collection of flash creative nonfiction, brief personal essays, recollections, and musings from members of our community, we hope to shine a light on the best things that can and have come out of the most challenging of times. This column will continue on a weekly basis and postings will be released at 10 AM Pacific every Monday, so watch for them! For guidelines and submission details, please contact Julie Zipperer at julieZ@far-west.org or Marlynn Block at marlynn@far-west.org. Submissions will be posted based on approval from the Lockdown Lemonade Committee.

Folks! It’s been a rough year. All the more reason to celebrate each other and our incredible community, right? We’re excited to announce that this year’s 18th annual FAR-West conference will take place October 14-16th and will be entirely virtual, allowing for an even greater reach for our FAR-West community. After all, FAR-West encompasses CA, HI, OR, WA, UT, ID, NV, WY, MT, AK, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, BC, and the Yukon territories. It’s a lot of ground and people to cover and we don’t want anyone to miss out!

This year’s theme, #forwardwithfolk, embraces our movement forward in adapting to a changing world while still showcasing past conference traditions such as the Venue’s Choice Concert, FAR-West Teaches (Panels), Guerrilla Showcases, and awards for the Best of The West, while introducing Campfires, Community Spotlights, Peer Sessions, and a Special Humanitarian Honoree.

Registration opens TODAY, Monday, August 2nd, at far-west.org.

We hope you can join us!
